The very beginnings of my artistic life involved purely illustrative drawings, and figurative sculptures, and over the years I have learnt not to abandon these because they force me to stay grounded in the traditional expression of illustrative drawings and sculpting, and I find it sometimes gives me a complementary way to exercise my creativity to that of my abstract work.
