The Five Ladies of Avignon

I have always liked Picasso’s early works, especially his cubist paintings, as they showed a unique freshness both technically and intellectually especially when taken in context of the era they were from. The cubists were the cutting edge of the art world of their time, but Picasso having the enormous talent and always experimenting and exploring many differing genres, in my opinion, was possibly one of the greatest artists of all time. His personal life, politics, misogynist attitudes the inhumanity of his attraction to bullfighting, sharply contrasted with the beauty, freshness and intellectualism of his earlier works.

These 5 sculptures I decided to name after the 5 ladies in the painting “Les Demoiselles d’Avignon ” which he completed in 1907, and has been one of my favourite paintings by him.
