There are several pieces in my collection that have gone through a transformation of genre’s sometimes after completion, and more often this transformation is from purely abstract to representational and very rarely the other way around.
However, just because I give a representational piece a title, this is just my interpretation of the sculpture, and I encourage people to interpret the piece any way they wish based on their perceptions of it.
The process of the transformation is, in my view, a fairly simple procedure, and it comes about when I get a representational idea or theme and it fits the abstract piece I am working on. These representational ideas in turn evolve from external influences, such as current sociological and historical events, something stored in my memory banks, or some esoteric thoughts or feelings that I transpose to the abstract piece, turning it into a representational sculpture.
